AMBR 2019 - 1936 Ford

Submitted by Stitch on January 30, 2019

The Grand national roadster Show started in 1950 and is the longest running indoor car show in the world, and the AMBR (Americas Most Beautiful Roadster) award, a towering eight foot tall trophy, is considered the ultimate recognition for a roadster-style hot rod. Each year a field of outstanding cars—built by the elites of the custom car world—competed for the prestigious award.

Americas Most Beautiful Roadster - 2019

The interior was a design collaboration of Eric Black and Sid Chavers; the 1936 was shipped to Sid Chavers Upholstery in Santa Clara, California, where Chavers custom-built the bench top/bucket seat bottoms from the seat frames up to mount on Pinkee's machined billet tracks. Relicate leather in a color named Walnut Shell was used throughout. Hand-laced eight-braided leather was used for the door pulls and chromed vintage MG-style exposed latches hold the doors shut; the armrests are full length. Vibro Solutions sound damping lies below foil-backed jute all as underlayment for German square-weave wool carpeting.

Inspired by the French Delahaye, Pinkee's machined the four-spoke steering wheel from a slab of billet aluminum, then Sid Chavers wrapped the outer rim in leather. The bespoke Classic Instruments are set into a radius-cut crosshatched gauge cluster placed central in a Macassar ebony veneer inlaid over a machined billet aluminum dashboard. The working folding top is made of stainless steel and wood bows chopped 3 inches to meet up with a 2-1/2-inch chopped 10-degree raked windshield. Chavers covered the top with Haartz Stayfast square-weave cloth topping. The flow-through ventilation opening rear window is a Chavers Cool Slot.
